The approximately 75 families that lived in Harris Neck prior to the disapora in 1942 created a breathtaking culture built on spirituality, education, endurance, and entrepreneurship.

Preserving and passing down this culture is important to the success of future generations.

Our ancestors played a big role in maintaining and making Harris Neck prosperous. They were resourceful people that lived off the land by fishing, farming, and hunting.

The community had access to and helped these resources thrive:

Seafood: oysters, crab, blue crab, fish, shrimp
Crops: sweet potatoes, corn, watermelon, and sugar cane
Animal species: white tail deer, wild turkey, birds, American Alligator, raccoon, fox, Woodstorks, eagles, and shorebirds
